Grantee Spotlight in Fresno County

TTH grantee the Leadership Counsel for Justice and Accountability (LCJA) is working in partnership with the Fresno County Public Health Department, Assemblymember Arambula's office, St. Agnes Medical Center, Fresno State Health and Human Services Mobile Health Unit, and Community United in Lanare to make sure that rural, primarily farmworker communities have access to the COVID-19 vaccine. LCJA conducted in-person outreach and helped provide 419 vaccines to farmworkers, people over 65, and community health workers. LCJA will be doing the same in Cantua Creek later this month, and have already registered 250 residents. Their outreach activities in both communities have consisted of door-to-door canvassing, phone calls, a hotline, and in-community bilingual registration to reduce barriers to participation.

The Together Toward Health team and the Fresno County Department of Public Health met with TTH grantees for the project kickoff meeting in February. The grantees shared that many community members do not know how to navigate going to the health department to get the vaccine so TTH grantees have been distributing education materials with vaccine information. The health department launched six vaccination pilots, where they identified the need for forms and staff in multiple languages, and recognized the positive influence of educational videos before and day-of vaccination. They are working together to apply these learnings in real time.
